Postdoctoral Position in the Department of Ecology, Evolution and Behavior at the University of Minnesota

The Stanton lab, in the Department of Ecology, Evolution and Behavior at the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities is seeking applicants for a postdoctoral position. Our new group focuses on the functional ecology and ecosystem effects of plants and other terrestrial autotrophs, particularly bryophytes, lichens and terrestrial algae. Current projects include 1) variation in functional traits and communities of lichens and bryophytes along environmental gradients, 2) distribution and physiology of lichenized algae, 3) importance of atmospheric water sources in plant ecophysiology and 4) ecosystem effects of lichens, bryophytes and other terrestrial "cryptogams". Candidates should have (or expect to have prior to start) a PhD in Ecology, Plant Biology or a related field. Inquiries and applications may be sent directly to Dr Daniel Stanton (stan0477@umn.edu). Applications should include a CV, a brief (1-2 page) description of research interests and achievements and contact information for three professional references. Review of applications will begin Oct. 21, 2019 and continue until the position is filled.

The Twin Cities campus of the Univ Minnesota is home to a diverse set of local collaborators, expertise, and resources, particularly within the departments of Ecology, Evolution & Behavior  and Plant and Microbial Biology , the Bell Museum and Herbarium, and the Minnesota Supercomputing Institute .  The campus is located in the heart of the Minneapolis-Saint Paul metropolitan area, which is rich in cultural and natural attractions.

Spruce award: for important contributions to bryology in first 25 years of professional career

Dr. Matt Renner (Royal Botanic Gardens and Domain Trust, Sydney, Australia)

Dr. Renner has made extraordinary contributions to our knowledge of bryology, extending to evolutionary biology in general. His main focus has been on systematics and taxonomy and evolutionary biology, as well as ecology, and translating this into action into conservation.

This is the sixth and last volume of the Project Flora Briofitica Iberica/Iberian Bryophyte Flora, led from its beginning by Prof. Juan Guerra. His tirelessly work, and his leadership and coordination capacity to join the efforts of a high-quality bryological team, finally has come to a fruitful end. This last volume was published in 2018, completing a project that began in 2003. The complete Flora comprised the mosses of a vast and biogeographically fascinating territory: peninsular Spain and Portugal, Andorra, and the Balearic Islands. Grolle award: for Excellence in Bryodiversity Research 

Dr. Juan Larrain (Pontifical Catholic University of Valparaíso, Chile)

Dr. Larraín has had an active field program in Chile for many years, with an emphasis on Chiloé Island, and contributions to the flora New Caledonia and Fiji. Juan has worked on both mosses and hepatics. For many years, he has done general bryophyte identification with an emphasis on Chile. His doctoral dissertation was a revision of the Latin American species of Racomitriumalong with a phylogeny of the genus. On his Field Museum post-doc he worked on the genus Frullania. His work stands out because he uses both specimen-based morphology as well as molecular data to reach conclusions. He actively publishes his results in peer-reviewed journals. Most recently Juan has had post-doctoral funding from the Chilean government. Throughout his time in Chile he has actively worked to improve the herbarium and its holdings at the Universidad de Concepción.

Brian Espinoza–Prieto (Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos, Peru):Taxonomy and distribution of the genus Frullania in Peru.

Es un placer invitaros a participar en la vigésima primera edición del Simposio de Botánica Criptogámica que tendrá lugar en Aranjuez (España) del 20 al 24 de junio de 2017 y que está organizado por el Área de Biodiversidad y Conservación de la Universidad Rey Juan Carlos.
El envío de resúmenes se abre el 15 de febrero de 2017 y la inscripción online se abrirá el 1 de marzo en la página web del Simposio en:
